Math and Balls
Violet has been practicing math, so I was quizzing her at bedtime.
"What's 4 plus 3?" I asked. Without pause she said, "Seven."
"What's 5 plus 4?" I asked. Instantly, she said, "Nine."
After several more, I said, "Wow, Violet, you're getting much faster on these things. Is that all of the practice that you've doing on that math app?"
"No, it's all that work in school doing these number bonds." She looked over to her side table. "Hand me that paper, and that pencil, Dad."
I handed them over and Violet started sketching. "It's like this daddy." She sketched a group of two little circles and another group of three little circles. She pointed to the two circles and said, "Look here, Dad. Jill has two balls."
She looks up from the paper to me and said, "You know, play balls, not like, you know, a man's balls."

Plays on Words
I was changing my shirt while Violet and Christie were having some cuddles in my room just before bed. Just as I was about to put on the new shirt, Christie noticed that I had lint in my belly button.
"Hey, you knitting a sweater in there?" she said point the lint out.
I looked down and saw it, "I guess so."
"Hey Daddy, maybe there's a little sheep in there." Violet said.
I said, "Come on Violet, that's baaaaaad."
Violet laughed, flipped hair back and said, "Oh, Daddy, I love a good play on words."
Christie and I laughed at Violet's very proper affect.
Violet said, "And if that sheep gets dirty, you can dunk it in the Baaaaaaa-you to wash it off."

Long Boobs
Violet said, "When I'm older I want to have the longest boobs ever. Like I'll be at the neighbor's house and if the baby gets hungry, I'll just throw a boob out the window."
She pauses a second, thinking. Then she continues, "I'll probably be on television!"

The High Road
Violet was explaining that her teacher yelled at her accidentally, confusing her for another student.
"So she yelled at me, 'Violet, stop it.' But she really meant to yell at Addison."
We told her, "I'm sorry that happened. Did that upset you?"
"A little, I guess."
"Well, did you want to say something to her?" I asked.
"I thought about it, but I decided that everyone makes mistakes and it's not really a big deal."
"OK, good for you Violet," we told her.
Later on we parents laughed at it. Violet's 6 years old and she wasn't scared to correct her teacher. Instead she decides to take the high road!
